AIR ASSISTED PATIENT LATERAL TRANSFER AND
REPOSITIONING (LT&R) MATTRESSES
Challenges in Healthcare
The Healthcare Sector experiences the highest proportion of work-related
injuries (non-fatal accidents) among all Professional Groups.
Workplace Injuries in Healthcare Institutions
A significant 50-60% of Healthcare Professionals Worldwide are affected by Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs).
Patient Lateral Transfers and Repositioning tasks, which are frequently reported in Healthcare, pose a risk to both Care Staff and Patient Health when performed manually.
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the USA, these injuries are largely due to:
- Over-exertion from repeated manual patient handling activities
- Heavy manual lifting associated with transferring and repositioning patients
- Working in extremely awkward postures

01 PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Air Assisted Patient Lateral Transfer and Repositioning (LT&R) Air Mattresses, are widely used in Hospitals and other Healthcare Institutions.
The Mattresses are specifically engineered to aid in the Transfer of and Repositioning of Patients, facilitating their movement across and between two adjacent surfaces (Surface to Surface Transfers), and assisting in Repositioning them in bed.
02 HOW THEY WORK
Operating in a manner similar to a Hovercraft, the Air-Assisted Mattresses utilise an external device, known as an Air Blower, to inflate the mattress.
The Air, expelled through perforations in the Mattress base, elevates the Mattress slightly off the resting surface, such as a bed.
This elevation minimises the contact and friction between the Mattress and the Resting Surface, enabling the Mattress to Glide Smoothly on a Cushion of Air.
03 WHY THEY ARE USED
The appeal of the Air Mattresses lies in their ability to significantly lessen the force or exertion required by Healthcare Providers when Transferring or Repositioning Patients.
They also provide Enhanced Comfort for Patients compared to other similar aids and devices.
